This was a bug in the original March '95 X server which, like the 'a' key 
problem was fixed in the January update of the X server.  I no longer 
experience this little quirk on the January server.  I think that this 
phenomenon is mentioned in the FAQ.  I'll add it if it's not in there 
anywhere.
