One possibility is that you "uncompressed" the tar file using MacGzip
in ASCII mode.  That way, every LF character in the original file is
translated into CR character in the resulted file.

I suggest you reinstall man11 file, but this time, you should *not*
uncompress the file with MacGzip.

If this is not the case, I haven't a slightest idea why it is so.
