Thanks to all who responded telling me that my file system is messed up.  
As suggested by several people I ran mkfs and started over reinstalling 
the files.  When I booted it got much farther when I tried to boot multi 
users.  I unfortunately didn't write down the steps, and the point that 
it stopped at.  I wanted it to be a repeatable problem so I tried it 
again.  This time it stopped after the time daemon again as it had 
originally when I had file troubles.  So I looked for bad files, and 
found tons of them.  Any body have any idea why I'm getting so many bad 
files for trying to boot multi user.  Am I destined to single user?
