This is the FreeBSD report which mentions the "cpu1 doesn't start"
problem and the "press keys" workaround:
<http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-smp/2007-May/001421.html>

But that problem appears to have gone now with the USB SMI disable
quirk. At least this kernel booted and the cpu1 started just fine
without pressing any keys during the boot.
