Ok, I've got vge0 working again...pulling the plug on the box and 
leaving it for ~30 minutes was enough to make NetBSD boot again.

Turns out that this is reproducible. Just booting the Fedora 7 Live CD 
is enough to make NetBSD fail to configure the VT612X chip properly. 
Turning the system off with the ATX power switch isn't enough to reset it.

I'll file a PR when I get a chance.
