Hi,

sorry! First post, already stultified...

Damn, i was sure i disabled HTML. Here is the text again:
Lesson learned: Don't use a webfrontend.

<snip>

First of all i want to thank you for the beautiful OS you created!

A couple of days ago i installed a daily-snapshot of NetBSD-4 on my
Toshiba Portege 3490ct.
There are many things that worked out of the box (Sound, USB,
  Bluetooth), but some others required some work (wpa_supplicant and
ralink wlan). All in all most of the the components are functioning
very good.

The only thing, which doesn't work properly is power management. There
are a couple of problems:

- The processor is detected as 500MHz and i can't set it to 700MHz.

- The command
# sysctl -w machdep.speedstep_state=1
leads to: "machdep.speedstep_state: 0 -> 1" .
But if i check this, it appears to remain 0.

- apm -z or apm -S leads to a system freeze. Only a hard-reset helps.

- with the vald driver (ok, it is not exactly for Toshiba Portege, but
it works partially) i can dim the backlight, but if i dim it too low,
it goes off and i can't reactivate it. I have to reboot the laptop.
I experienced the same behavior in linux. There i fixed the bug in a
script, but i can't remember the exact cause (it was a simple one).

- the acpi apm-emulation only sees one battery and tells me false
values.

Are there some debug-switches which i can use to provide some useful
information?

Bye
