Subject: hanging dell machines

g4u 2.2beta2 uses a NetBSD-3.99.17 GENERIC kernel. Has anyone else seen
those USB hangs on recent Dell machines? I see lots of complains about g4u
hanging on those machines...

Is there any other solution than to tweak the BIOS and attach a PS/2
keyboard?

Hello, I'm having a bit of trouble with some new Dell machines that have come in
and would appreciate any help you could offer.

The machines are Dell 210L

What g4u version do you use

I have tried both 2.1 and 2.2 beta with the same result

What exact command(s) did you use

I have been unable to get to the stage where you can enter commands

If the system hangs during boot: what are the last three lines printed on the
screen (again all three of them, verbatime)

The last three lines are

cd0(piixide0:1:0) using PIO mode 4 Ultra-DMA mode2 (Ultra/33) (using DMA)
uhub1: device problem disabling port 2
uhub1: device problem disabling port 2

What does "disks" say? "parts"?

I cannot enter these commands

What operating system, filesystem type and FTP server software do you use on
your FTP server?

The ftp server is running vsftp on fedora core 4

The problem would appear to be with the usb controller. There are three
settings in the BIOS for the controller Off/On/No Boot. G4U will boot fine if I
turn the controller off but the machine has no ps/2 sockets and obviously I then
have no access to a keyboard. Setting it to No Boot makes no difference to the
problem.

I have booted the machine with Knoppix which boots fine with a working keyboard
and mouse, lsmod shows that it is using the uhci module for linux. I have no
idea if this driver is even vaguely related to the netBSD driver but thought I'd
include the information in case.

Chris
