3ware 8000 series controllers seem to work just fine. I've only used the 2 and
4 port varieties, but I _assume_ the 8 port ones should work as well. 

I have several other systems running raidframe, but I usually use raid 1 on
those systems. For raid5, I usually use 3ware cards, although I have some 
raid 1's on 3ware and some raidframe using raid5 as well.

If you don't need high performance, and you don't want to buy a spare card
in case the 3ware card dies, you might want to consider raidframe. Otherwise, 
your just adding a new single point of failure into your systems.
