I've not used NetBSD with the T52, but I *have* used it with the much
older (1996 or so) Thinkpad 755cx.

It has an 800x600 display and a chipset only supported by XFree86 3.x.
So I put NetBSD 1.5.3 on it, which is the last version (?) that used
XFree86 3.x.

It also runs NetBSD 2.0, but only in console mode ;) I can live with
1.5.3. My 755CX is not a priority machine by any means! It's a 75mhz
laptop!

Sound is a no-go, though I did read the Linux guys got a driver working
for the weird-ass DSP on the 755CX.

I'd reckon that any newer hardware would give you significantly fewer
headaches.
