Thanks for the replies so far. Some command output below (no more text from me below command output).

In short, ifconfig -a does not see the device under netbsd (not ne2), and the dmesg output of netbsd does not detect anything isapnp, or anything that looks like an NE2000. I snipped the linux dmesg to just the ne2k-related bits; I can post the whole thing if that would be useful.

netbsd ifconfig -a:
lo0: flags=8008<LOOPBACK,MULTICAST> mtu 33196
ppp0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
ppp1: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
sl0: flags=c010<POINTOPOINT,LINK2,MULTICAST> mtu 296
sl1: flags=c010<POINTOPOINT,LINK2,MULTICAST> mtu 296

linux dmesg (relevant bits):
ne.c:v1.10 9/23/94 Donald Becker (becker@cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov)
NE*000 ethercard probe at 0x300: 00 a0 d1 03 fc 45
eth0: NE2000 found at 0x300, using IRQ 10.

netbsd dmesg:
