The SMP might well matter. I recently updated to 2.0.1, and have
not seen this at all:

cwr@achilles#uname -a
NetBSD achilles 2.0.1 NetBSD 2.0.1 (ACHILLES) #0: Wed Feb 16 23:10:26 EST 2005
cwr@achilles:/usr/obj/sys/arch/i386/compile/ACHILLES i386
cwr@achilles#uptime
 4:32PM up 15 days, 17:19, 6 users, load averages: 0.41, 0.27, 0.19

Good luck,
Chris
