Out of curiosity, what ac'97 codec does it report in dmesg?
Mine is:
emuxki0: ac97: SigmaTel STAC9708 codec; 18 bit DAC, 18 bit ADC, SigmaTel 3D
emuxki0: ac97: ext id 80<SDAC>

(at least I'm pretty sure; that's actually the dmesg output from my
girlfriend's machine, but it was built by the same person, and I'm assuming
we've got the same sound card. I know mine is a SigmaTel codec.
Interestingly enough, so is the onboard ac97 on the machine I pulled mine
from, just a lower number.)
