I'm sorry to hear that :-(
My NIC never completely disappeared, it transformed into an "unknown network
controller" with PCI ID 0x1051. Intel diagnostics etc did find it anyway and
could test it, but couldn't do anything to the EEPROM contents. By adding
this PCI ID into the fxp driver, the driver could attach to it.
Have you tried some kind of PCI scanning utility (eg pciconf in FreeBSD or
Sisoftware Sandra in Windows)?
