The Linux Kernel Sony SPIC module has hooks for adjusting the LCD/ 
screen brightness using a program "spicctrl".

It looks like basic ioctl's to /dev/sonypi.

I was wondering if our spic(4) could be modified for this.  Turning  
down the LCD saves battery time on Sony laptops in a big way -- LCD  
Dimming and "Speedstep", which is a less-specific project.
