Dear Eric,

Sorry it took so long to respond to your suggestion of trying NetBSD v1.6=
 with
v3.x X-server with XFree86 4.x.  I tried this and it works the same as be=
fore=20
(garbled video display) when I had NetBSD v1.6 installed with its supplie=
d X
server and binaries.  So out with NetBSD v1.6 and back to v1.5.2 _again_ =
with
its v3.x XFree86 on the IBM ThinkPad 760XL video.
