I don't think X will beep to anything.
Are you trying to get xterms to alarm to system speaker, or what?

Of course, I could be missing something and be totally wrong. ;)

Subject: XFree86: beep to speakers?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to make XFree86 beep to the
external speakers instead of (or in addition to) to system speaker?

This is XFree86 version 4.2.0 under NetBSD-1.6 on a Pentium 4, and the
sound card is:=20

  emuxki0 at pci2 dev 7 function 0: Creative Labs SBLive!
    EMU 10000 (audio multimedia, revision 0x0a)
  emuxki0: interrupting at irq 11
  emuxki0: TriTech unknown codec; no 3D stereo
  audio0 at emuxki0: full duplex, mmap, independent

The sound card and speakers seem OK; I used "audioplay" on a .wav file
to confirm that.
