That should be no problem, in terms of basic functionality, at least.  There
are some unfortunate performance problems in the KAME IPsec (some have been
addressed, but some still remain).

PCI-X is hardware and software compatible with PCI.  I use the Intel 82544
and 82546 Gig-E in PCI and PCI-X systems with no problems.
