Having ACPI disables APM.

apm(8) and apmd(8) only work with apm(4)

apmd will be useless to you with acpi.  Some of the equivalent
power-management features are not yet present in the newly-implemented
acpi support - for now it's mostly about getting configuration data
out of the pc, the rest is being worked on.
