How much work is it to try a current kernel on a 1.6 system? My time is
currently limited (exams soon), but I can surely try it end of January.

But I think that the incorrect hlt sequence has nothing to do with the
temperature. As the mail states it will also halt with the incorrect
sequence, but it might lock up. But this area is far beyond my knowledge of
Intel assembly.
