I found a setting "Touchpad support" and I disabled it. With a keyboard
connected, the touchpad actually still worked. But I got hopeful because
the external keyboard worked now. So I tried the mouse instead, and

Yes, it helps if the mouse actually *works*. Duh.
So with the "Touchpad support" enabled and a working mouse, I can use
both at the same time.
