Subject: RealTek 8139C+, rtk driver, and watchdog timeouts

I recently picked up a Compaq Presario 910US which comes with
a built-in RealTek 8139C+, and while it appears to be probed ok
and pushes packets around, the performance is sub-abysmal (5-10
second pings over the local ethernet), and I keep getting "watchdog
timeout" messages. I get the same thing with 1.5.3 GENERIC, 1.6
GENERIC, 1.6 GENERIC_LAPTOP, and 1.6I+nathenw_sa custom kernels.
I assume interrupts are being lost, but a quick glance at the BIOS
settings, the 8139C+ spec, and the code didn't turn up anything
obviously wrong. I even tried a patch or two based on FreeBSD
driver changes, but without effect.

Any ideas where to look next? Has anyone else run into this
problem? I'm attaching dmesg output for the 1.6* kernels in case
it might help. Thanks.

					Gary D. Duzan
