On my system, a fresh 1.6 with KDE3 built from pkgsrc,
libpthread.so.14 is situated at /usr/pkg/lib, but I think there is
another problem. Don't start KDE with startkde but with startx and your
~/.xinitrc filled with "exec startkde".
