If I recall correctly, "hd" supplants "wd" and "sd", since all the BIOS
knows about is
the order in which it finds disks, not the interface by which they are
connected
to the machine.  Previous bootblocks would treat 'hd', 'wd', and 'sd'
identically
while giving the illusion of treating them differently.
