When you need service, I agree, but if I need service I expect that even
a computer shop will not be able to help me (I don't hold a high opinion
of the expertise level at computer shops either). The Aldi (another
German discount supermarket) PC of some years back was a fairly good
buy, and I expect this offer is inspired by its success.

Doesn't say. A previous model had a SiS chipset, including graphics and
network, and it was critisised for being too slow relative to the CPU.
Since this one has a different graphic system I expect a different
chipset as well. Ah, via the German Lidl I found some extra info: the
chipset is VIA Twister-K VT8362 + VT8231. See
http://www.targa.de/cms/targa_1_259.php and
http://www.lidl.de/lde/app/www/lidl_de.nsf/of/0BFCA0438AAB451CC1256C160031C306

It turns out there is one pcmcia/cardbus slot after all. I was expecting
this, since the predecessor models all had it.

Why is that? Memory bandwidth issues, or more than that? Does it need
special/different memory allocation or support in X before it works?
