Subject: NetBSD on the Sony SRX77?

I have a beautiful shiny new (well, refurbished) Sony SRX77 sitting here
on my desk. I'm having an interesting time getting it up and running.
I'm running NetBSD-1.6E, which seems to do alot of the stuff I need:
I managed to fix up XFree86-4.2 on it without only a little bit of
trouble, and I got the ACPI code configured okay as well. I even got
cardbus support working.
The problem is that I can't get regular PCMCIA cards to work. The internal
Orinoco card as well as several PRISM-2 based cards I've tried all fail
with the following error message:
wi0 at pcmcia1 function 0: Lucent Technologies, WaveLAN/IEEE, Version 01.01
wi0:wi0: command timed out, cmd=0x0
wi0: init failed
wi0: command timed out, cmd=0x121
wi0: command timed out, cmd=0x21
could not get mac address, attach failed
wi0: failed to attach controller
Any ideas? Better yet, does somebody have a working config file or
interesting patches to fix this? I've appended the kernel configuration
du jour (I've been trying *lots* of combinations) and dmesg.
Thanks!
Kevin
