Just to report back, so the information is online:

The Transtec X1001WIR14 is actually a Supermicro 
Superserver 5012B-E, based on their own Super P4SBE 
Motherboard.

The board and the system itself are well documented
(from an admins viewpoint) and the docs are
available as PDFs from the supermicro.com site.

Everything I need is supported, even the lm sensors!
