I did a basic "ftp a large file to/from memory filesystem test over 
firewire a few months ago, and got about 15mbytes/sec. If I remember 
correctly, this was between a 500Mhz PIII with an IBM cardbus->firewire 
card, and a 933Mhz VIA C3 with a TI firewire chip on the motherboard. I 
didn't think to try ttcp or anything like that...
