Hello,
I tried fxtv v1.03 last night (P233 computer) and it acted similar to 1.02
in that the screen only refreshes every minute or so and only the top 1/8
of the screen refreshes.

This weekend I put the card in a P100 computer and that worked fine even
with fxtv v1.02 provided I startx -- -bpp 16 and fxtv -disableDirectV. 
With 1.03 it was unecessary to type the -disableDirectV as it correctly
determined that direct video was unavailable.  So beautiful.

So there's something fishy about the first computer.  It is an Intel Triton
motherboard with Pentium 233MMX and S3Virge DX graphics card.  It only gave
the sporadic refreshes without the -disableDirectV flag.  The screen
remained black with the -disableDirectV flag. The P233 is for my family (I
use the P100) and so I'd really like to get it to work on that one.
