That's an unreasonable request, given that there could be two or three
snapshots in any given machine directory at any given time, and that
most of such huge tarballs would be nearly identical.

Ironically, the problem you reported would have occurred with the
exact source that was used to build the snapshot. The kernel Makefile
in today's sources sets USETOOLS, so if you had simply updated to the
latest current, it would not have been a problem.

The snapshots are best used to *track* current. If you want a one-shot
deal, you should stick to the formal releases (in my opinion). If you
ever convince the group to mandate that all snapshots include source,
you're going to see a lot fewer snapshots, so please, let it go.
