Depends on what you are tryign to boot...

Some sun boxes (and maybe some versions of solaris) require drives
that can read cdrom with 512 byte sectors.
This isn't always supported, and is often buggy when it is.

(Of course if you are on a PC nothing expects anything other than 2k
sectors - except for audio...)
