darn, same for me. I get an error like "Failed PCI_MAP_23" or
something. The PC's 20 miles away, so I can't tell you the
exact error at the moment :)

No, no MAC address (just zeros) but it does work for non-NFS
networking.

That's the exact error I get when trying to do NFS, with a Sparc
Classic as the NFS server.
Media autodetect works fine, but I just have a plain old 10bT
hub for networking.
