I have a similar problem with a 3Com Megahertz pcmcia ethernet card,
sometime when I do a ifconfig the link goes out (and interface config too)
Or if I want to user atalkd I get the same probeme (but every time)
The card try to autoselect the speed but that not work, I need to ifconfig
... media to set it or to eject and insert the card ( but sometime this
crash netbsd !)
