In fact, these chipset is supported by two different drivers. The old
one, ncr(4), is commented out in the generic kernel, the new one,
siop(4), is (i quote the manpage) : "still being worked on, some
features are not used and performances are not optimal. However it
appears to be more robust than the ncr(4) driver."

siop is in the GENERIC kernel. So, if your card isn't detected, i
suggest you to :

cp GENERIC GENERIC-NCR
edit GENERIC-NCR to uncomment the ncr line (and comment the siop one)
config GENERIC-NCR
cd ../compile/GENERIC-NCR
make depend && make
cp /netbsd /netbsd.GENERIC
mv netbsd /netbsd

Also, have a look at the ncr(4) manpage to learn the
various options that may be of interest for your hardware.
