  The best way for compiling this (and other) software from source is
the package system (see
http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/software/packages.html for more
information).  ORBit, gdk, gtk, gdk-pixbuf, etc. are all in the packages
collection and contain the proper Makefiles and patches to compile them
without problems under NetBSD.
