Hi,

there are two issues mentioned on the Maxtor homepage:

With some versions of Award bios and a UDMA-2 controller and 
UDMA-4/5 drives similiar problems happened. You might wish to 
check if a bios update could help.

This should be a microsoft problem. There seem to be timing issues 
with K6 class CPUs with more than 350MHz.
