Okay, I observe what looks to be an anomaly...

I can do this...

# /usr/pkg/sbin/nmbd -D
# /usr/pkg/sbin/smbd -D

...without complaint from NetBSD. But when I
do this...

# ps -x

...I see neither smbd nor nmbd in the listing.
And when I look do...

# ls /var/run

...I also don't see nmbd.pid nor smbd.pid. But
I do see /var/run/samba. So when I do...

# ls /var/run/samba
# nmbd.pid smbd.pid

...and when I do...

# kill `cat /var/run/samba/nmbd.pid`
# 348: No such process.

...So I'm wondering (just newbie pondering) that
maybe the smbd.pid and nmbd.pid being in the dir
/var/run/samba rather than /var/run is some kind
of confusion for NetBSD?

Know that to be sure, I did this...

# pkg_delete samba

...and then I did...

# pkg_add samba

...and did everything anew, with same result. This
is kind of frustrating.
