_The Design and Implementation of the 4.4BSD Operating System_ is the
canonical book on internals. It is only about 5 years old.
There are some interesting documents in /usr/src/share/doc/papers.
But if you're looking for "The Design and Implementation of the NetBSD
Operating System" you probably won't find it any time soon.
