I noticed the line...

starting local daemons

...and rememabered it from...

/etc/rc.local

...just below which I boot to graphical
login with KDE via the line...

/usr/X11R6/bin/kdm

...so I commented it out and rebooted
but the message...

Segmentation fault - core dumped

...repeated four times did not go away
at the next boot. As far as I got by 
myself (I'm a newbie).
