Subject: sysinst network failure (1.5, 1.5.1_BETA, 1.5T)

I tried installing NetBSD/i386 1.5 on a Compaq Proliant box with
a ThunderLAN ethernet chipset, and after configuring the network,
sysinst complains that the default gateway or nameserver is unreachable.
At first glance, this seems not to be the case, because suspending
sysinst and checking them manually with ping works. However, if I
leave ping running in the background before sysinst does its check,
sure enough, it stops working as soon as sysinst performs the check,
and apparently resumes functioning sometime after.

So, what is sysinst doing differently than ping that could cause this
failure? FWIW, this also appears to be a problem with the 1.5.1_BETA
and 1.5T snapshots.
