Did you try the following ?
1 - to set the mouse device as /dev/wsmouse (and not /dev/mouse, as
suggested
by xf86config ! - or symlink it to the proper thing).
2 - to set the mouse type as wsmouse (11 as far as I can remember).
Of course, do not forget to include the correct options in your
kernel...
