Curiouser and curiouser -- the errors haven't occurred all week.

Hmm, maybe it's because I upgraded the machine from 1.5 to 1.5.1_ALPHA
(it was the box that built the 20010324 release snap).

Or it could be that I downloaded the Seagate diagnostic disk and the drive
decided to behave. (When I finally got around to running the tests last
night, 1 short and 2 long tests runs passed perfectly.)
