I am so close to getting the bootable CD-ROM to work that I can nearly
taste it. What I am missing is the one crucial link that causes the
system to recognize the CD-ROM as a bootable medium.

Which is the specific command for doing this? Is it the mkisofs
options? 

FWIW I'm in the middle of waiting for a
cd /usr/src/etc; make -n release RELEASEDIR=releasedir DESTDIR=destdir
to finish.
