My previous PC had a built-in Ethernet port that Windows98 identified as
"3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller (3C905C-TX
Compatible)". My current PC has a built-in Ethernet port that WindowsME
identifies as "3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller (3C905C-TX
Compatible)".

With the old PC (a Dell XPS T600) I could run NetBSD 1.5 and get the
network card to function. With the new PC (a Dell Dimension 8100) the
networking is hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Two snippets from dmesg when the card wasn't working are:

ex0 at pci2 dev 12 function 0: 3Com 3c905C-TX 10/100 Ethernet with mngmt
(rev. 0x78)
ex0: interrupting at irq 3
ex0: MAC address bd:bd:00:00:bd:bd

ex0 at pci2 dev 12 function 0: 3Com 3c905C-TX 10/100 Ethernet with mngmt
(rev. 0x78)
ex0: interrupting at irq 3
ex0: MAC address bd:bd:bd:bd:bd:bd

When the card does work, the exphy0 device is also found and the MAC
address is something more realistic, I think. Since it was working I
didn't save the dmesg output.

Other interesting things about this PC that may be relevant are:
