hi everyone.

i have a dell inspiron 5000e laptop, and you may recall, i've had
various problems with apm and other things, most of which have now
been resolved.

my latest problem is interesting, and is related to apm suspend, x11,
and wscons virtual terminals. in all cases i can test this by pressing
the latch/switch that closing the case depresses.

* if i'm running x11 on a virtual terminal, and i suspend, things work
fine UNTIL i try and switch to a text console. when that happens,
the screen goes black and then various pixels appear to cycle
various colours (usually deep blue or deep red). pressing
CTRL-ALT-Fx to cycle back to the x11 display doesn't seem to help.
the display is effectively unusable, but the machine is still
  usuable for remote connections.

note that before i try to switch into a text console then x11 works
  fine after the resume.

* if i'm running x11 on a virtual terminal, and a text virtual terminal
is active, and i suspend and resume, things work fine. after resume
i can switch to the x11 virtual terminal and switch back to the text
  one without problem

* if i'm not running x11, and i suspend and resume, things work fine.

it seems like a weird interaction between xfree 4.0.2 and wscons, but
i have no idea where to start. any thoughts?
