Some drivers are able to do it. Unfortunatly I don't know exactly
which drivers have this capability. (from the CHANGELOG at least the
rendition, s3virge and trident drivers have it).

For the others, the X server gets the mode with the DDC protocol but
only logs them in /var/log/XFree86.0.log for now.
