Yes, I see that in a 1.3.3 system I still have.  I don't have a 1.4
anywhere, but all 1.4.n (n >=1) (and 1.5 of course) have it the new way.

Yes, it certainly did no harm, but I suspect that it will cause a lot
of "what happened here" type messages on the lists after 1.5 is
released if it stays the way it is.   It is more likely that people
will be upgrading 1.4.N systems than 1.3.N systems I'd expect, so if
things have to "be a nuisance" it would probably be better for them
to be a nuisance in the rarer case.
