Thanks for your very interesting posting, I can tell there's
a lot of Emacs history I'm not familiar with.  Thanks for
including the reference too.

I phrased that badly, it comes from having so many messages
to reply to and not taking enough care over each one.

That was pretty much what I suspected, which is why I was
surprised by the suggestion that unix (and presumably BSD)
depended upon hardware handshaking.
