It means you deleted the line
#include "arch/i386/conf/std.i386"
from your kernel config file. Don't do that.
Only change "options", "filesystems" and the various device driver
entries (e. g. "ne* at isapnp", etc.) below.
Comment out (i. e. add a "#" as the first character of that line) all
devices, file systems, etc., that you do not have/need.
