It would be helpful (so as not to say: absolutely neccessary) to know
what _exactly_ you were doing when getting that error.

Do not try to execute the GENERIC file or anything.

Please read:

  http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/kernel/#how_to_build_a_kernel

carefully and follow the instructions. If the problem persists, tell
us what you were doing and what was the exact error message. Otherwise
we can hardly guess what went wrong.

(In reading the above you will also discover that it's actually
"kernel" and not "kernal".)
