I restored  the 'vga0 at isa ?' line and everything works
(this is the version I put on the web).  Go figure :-)
I guess I had figured with AGP video, vga0 wasn't needed.
Doh.

Attached is my dmesg...  Off topic:  Any idea why my
SCSI hard drive won't run at 10MHz?
